ART AND DESIGN WORK FOR THE DONCASTER P2 LOCOMOTIVE TRUST 'COCK O' THE NORTH' PROJECT
"Doncaster, South Yorkshire - The greatest railway town in the world."
In the late 1990's, a small group of dedicated enthusiasts met to engage in a feasibility study to see if it was possible to recreate a P2 locomotive. In the inter-war period three famous locomotives were built at the Plant works in Doncaster. The first of these locomotives was Flying Scotsman, followed by Cock "O" The North and finally the world record breaking Mallard. Flying Scotsman and Mallard fortunately are still with us but the missing link Cock O' The North is not, and the Doncaster P2 Locomotive Trust intend to build from scratch the lost locomotive. The new Cock O' The North will be built in the famous railway town of Doncaster, where the first Cock O' The North was originally constructed. Imagine the sight of a brand new semi-streamlined P2 locomotive running on the mainlines of the UK again!
A Trustee of the Doncaster P2 Locomotive Trust, Andrew produced the pencil sketch below showing Cock O' The North at the Doncaster Works, in fact, outside Sir Nigel Gresley's office at Denison House. All profits from the sale of the prints goes towards the fund to build Cock O' The North.
Andrew also designed the Trust's 'corporate identity' utilising the LNER green and livery of the locomotive and design details to produce a distinctive look for the Trust, which he uses to good effect on their leaflets, website and other promotional materials.
